The Milk of Sorrow is the name of a movie produced in 2009 by the Peruvian director Claudia Llosa, the nephew of Mario Vargas Llosa, a famous writer of literature. This film was shown for the first time on February 12, 2009 at the Berlin Film Festival, Germany, and was able to win the Golden Bear Award for the best film of the Berlin Film Festival on the day of the awarding of the main part of the competition. The film was praised at many festivals, including being one of the five finalists for the best foreign language film of the year at the Oscars. Claudia Llosa's 94-minute film is very bitter and full of exceptional visual effects. The most important strength of the film is Yosa's wonderful use of contrasting situations in the best possible way together. He conveys the contrasts to the viewer. Not just obvious contradictions, but even small ones. Fasta, (played by Magali Sollier) a Peruvian girl, is suffering from a disease called the lion of grief, which the locals believe is transmitted from a pregnant mother who has been raped to her child. This disease causes despair and a terrible failure in him in such a way that even if the whole city is happy, he cannot be happy. A fear of the future and the growth of a potato-shaped tumor growing in his body has made him sick and desperate. In the meantime, his mother also dies. And he decides to bury her in a proper ceremony in the city, but poverty does not allow him to do so, until he is forced to work in the house of a rich pianist woman...
