The story takes place in the near future. When creatures from another planet called Wetans come to live on Earth after the destruction of their habitat. A war breaks out between them and the earthlings, during which the earth is transformed and turns into a new planet. A planet full of danger for all its inhabitants. In the meantime, a group of earthlings and aliens unite and build a city called Defiance.

The story of the series begins with a mysterious object hitting the desert in the state of New Mexico and a terrible explosion that leads to the temporary death of a scientist named Vera Buckley who is conducting scientific research in the area. After his strange and miraculous return from death, he went to the explosion site with his colleague to find out the truth. But some people try to prevent him from reaching the truth. Finally, he meets a mysterious person called The Man, who claims that he can return his stolen child to him in exchange for a strange mission. However, this is not the whole story and his acquaintance with four other people who also suffered temporary death under the influence of the explosion and came back to life reveals more facts to Vera. Apparently, the world is on an apocalyptic path and these five people are the only chance of the earth to save the inhabitants of the planet from a dark future.
