1943, the height of World War II. The plane of "Colonel Joseph L. Ryan" (Sinatra), a US Air Force pilot, is shot down and he is taken to a POW camp in Italy. There, "Ryan" leads the escape operation of 600 British and American prisoners.

String is a helicopter pilot who works in an arms company after the war. This company built a helicopter named Sky Wolf to use it for its military purposes. String steals and hides this helicopter to use it to help people. Company officials seek to return the Sky Wolf, but Sterling makes its return conditional on finding his brother, who went missing during the Vietnam War.
