Northern Waters tells the story of Patrick Sumner, a rejected ex-army surgeon who enlists as the ship's doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. On board he meets Henry Drax, the Hunter, a ruthless killer whose disorder has been shaped to fit the strictures of his world.
