The story of this film depicts two episodes of World War II. In the first episode, a smart boy who tries to save his life eventually becomes a hero and finds a reason to fight. At first, he avoids training and turns to drunkenness and cowardice. His will is more to survive than to have a heroic death. In the second episode, it shows the desperate attempts of a prisoner to escape from the prison, who can no longer see the indifference of the prison's professional soldiers. Nevertheless, his escape creates hope among the other prisoners, while this escape is concealed by the Germans and sometimes by the prisoners.
