The events of this film take place in the sixties in a small town in Montana. Close to where a family lives, an uncontrollable forest fire rages near the Canadian border. When Jerry, the father of the family, loses his job and has no hope of living anymore, he decides to join the fire fighting team who are trying to put out the fire. For this reason, he leaves his wife and child to pursue his new goal. But Joe, the teenage son of the family, suddenly finds himself in a situation where he has to play the role of an adult.
