Duluth, Northern Minnesota, 1920s. "Dog Connelly" (Clooney) is the aging captain of an American football team that is about to be disbanded due to financial problems. To save the team, "Dodge" hires the new football star, "Bolt Radford" (Krasinski), who, in addition to his athletic abilities, apparently also has a history as a World War I hero. Very soon, "Connelly" and "Rutherford" find a reporter named "Lexi Littleton" (Zelweger). Now "Connelly" has to get both "Lexi" and keep the team...
