Japan, 2019, just before the dawn of a new era. Suddenly, a crack into another dimension appears in the sky, revealing an alternate world called Shinkoku Nippon - the real Japan, where heaven and earth are upside down. This parallel world retains its former militarism, and the era is quite similar to the Showa era - 1926 in Japan. The army invades mainland Japan with giant humanoid robots called Garann and gas weapons called Genmu, rendering our modern weapons ineffective. Shinkoku Nippon immediately takes over the government and conquers Japan. Riva's new course - 2019 hasn't arrived in Japan yet.
