The story of the animation takes place one year after the events of the anime series. After a long journey in the "Line of Worlds" due to an invention called "D-Mail", a message that is sent to the past, "Rintaro Okabe" reaches the world line of "Stein Gate". A place where none of his friends die and the future ruled by SERN doesn't exist because the time machine wasn't invented.
