Six months have passed since the unfortunate events caused by the video tape and the spirit of Samara in the first episode, and now Rachel (Naomi Watts) has left Seattle with her son Eden (David Dorfman) to start a new and peaceful life. There, Rachel gets a new job at a local newspaper. But a little later, a brutal murder of a teenager occurs in this area and a videotape is found at the scene of the murder, so Rachel, who found out about this, destroys the killer's tape. But Samara's ghost has now directly resumed its crimes without the need for a video tape and decides to come back to life by taking over Eden's body, so Rachel returns to Seattle to investigate more about Samara's past and find a way to destroy her...
