Olympic and World War II champion Louis Zamperini, who regularly suffers nightmares from his horrific experiences, meets a young woman named Cynthia Applewhite, who becomes his wife. Zamperini's personal demons soon threaten to destroy his marriage until he hears the energizing words of Billy Graham in 1949. He embraces his budding Christian faith and begins to transform his life by forgiving those who wronged him and spreading the message of peace and love.
