1910. Helen (Banham Carter) and Margaret Schlegel (Thompson) meet the Wilcox family with their brother, Tibby (Ross Magneti). "Ms. Wilcox" (Redgrave) plans a friendship with "Margaret" and when she dies, she wills that the Howard's End country estate will go to "Margaret". But "Henry Wilcox" (Hopkins) and his children destroy the will and after a while "Henry" proposes marriage to "Margaret".
