The story of a 12-year-old girl named Belle who loses her mother in a car accident. Belle's father struggles with the loss of his wife, and at the same time struggles to come to terms with Belle, who she blames partly for her mother's death. After this incident, Bell's maternal grandfather can no longer love his granddaughter as before, because Bell reminds him of his lost daughter. Belle's new dog, Atticus, re-bonds the trio.
