John Doolittle (Smith) is able to talk to animals as a child, but his father is against this and John forgets his unique talent. Years pass and John (Murphy) becomes a successful doctor. One day he runs over a dog and suddenly regains his talent and after a while he rescues the animal and takes it home. His fame spreads everywhere and a group of sick animals line up in front of his house.
