Vietnam War veteran Hank Deerfield receives a message from the military that his son has returned from Iraq and then disappeared. Hank, who lost one of his sons years ago, this time he goes to his place of service to find the second one. There, by referring to the missing persons department of the police department, he realizes that the police organization is not able to help him, because the investigation of military personnel is only the responsibility of the army. But his insistence and that the military is hiding something, attracts the attention of detective Emily Sanders. After the dismembered body of "Mike Deerfield" was found, the army took the case out of Sanders' hands by declaring that the body was found in the military zone.
