In a well-equipped prison built in a research laboratory, 20 men are brought together for a salary of 4,000 marks so that 12 of them play the role of prisoners and the other 8 play the role of prison guards. The prisoners are led to their cells and must obey the prison rules and the guards must fulfill their duties (without violence). The purpose of this project, which is supposed to last for two weeks, is to examine the effect of laws and regulations on people... Dr. Melavs Thon, the project manager, is waiting to see how long the guards can maintain order in the prison without resorting to violence. The actors playing the role of the prisoner think the situation is a joke at first, but after a few hours of minor conflicts, the problem becomes more and more serious and finally leads to an irreparable disaster...
