Anthony Curtis (Tate) is a bright eighteen-year-old who decides to leave Juanita (Jackson) and his neighborhood friends and enlist in the Navy instead of going to college. After a terrible experience in Vietnam, he returns home in 1972 and finds that no one sees him as a hero.
